Lara is most recently the author of The Time of the Novel, published by Wendy’s Subway, and noted a “Favorite Book of 2025” by The Paris Review. Publishers Weekly describes it as a “luminous” and “brilliant debut,” and The Brooklyn Rail says “her prose sings with gorgeous and surreal imagery.”
She is the recipient of a 2026 Whiting Award in Fiction, in addition to various residencies and fellowships from MacDowell, Lighthouse Works, Jentel, Headlands Center for the Arts, CantoMundo, and the McKnight Foundation.
She is the author of two previous books of poetry, THRESHOLES (2020) and The Somnambulist (2016).

She holds a PhD in English from The Graduate Center, City University of New York. She regularly collaborates with other artists to develop public programs and image-text projects. S
he is a faculty member of the Creative Writing MFA program at Pacific Northwest College of Art. She also teaches in XE: Experimental Humanities and Social Engagement Master’s program at NYU.
